I began composing ‘Time Is Truth’ in early 2022, just as we were emerging from the fog of COVID in Melbourne. After those drab and impersonal times, I was delighted to throw myself headlong into a project that had love, warmth and intimacy at its core. I created the text for the five ‘Time Is Truth’ songs from a series of interviews I conducted with the work’s commissioners, plus selected verses from the Old Testament’s Song of Songs. I wanted to celebrate the depth, compromise, joy and humour generally inherent within a successful long-term relationship.
